The Stunning Sale That Is Making Heads Turn Around After Monterey Car Week
The era of electric cars is here and the first Ferrari model of this kind broke a new world record.
During this year’s Monterey Car Week, a one-of-one Ferrari Luce “Chassis 0” was sold for the mind-blowing sum of $40 million at an RM Sotheby’s charity auction in Monterey, California.
This sale made the Luce one of the most expensive new cars ever sold at an auction.
But the sum is not the only impressive aspect of this vehicle.
Introducing Ferrari Luce
Ferrari Luce is a huge step forward for the company, as this is their first all-electric vehicle.
Contrary to a traditional design of a two-seat Ferrari supercar, the Luce is a four-door performance vehicle with five seats, powered exclusively by electricity.
It boasts 1,036 horses produced by four electric motors, which shows that Ferrari intends to maintain the high level of performance when switching to the new technology.
The very design of the Luce caused a lot of discussions within the Ferrari community, as the departure from the combustion-engine formula is viewed as something strange by some enthusiasts.

Why Is This Ferrari So Special?
Although this is a Ferrari Luce, this $40 million car has a few distinctive features that make it unique.
Nicknamed “Chassis 0”, it is the first production chassis of the Luce program and was made as a unique vehicle by Ferrari’s Tailor Made personalization program.
The exterior of the vehicle is painted in the specially designed for it Madreperla Semi-Gloss, which changes colors depending on the light and viewing angle – from green to violet.
On the inside, Ferrari went on with the light theme by using metallic Perla leather with Grigio Corvara accents and lots of custom-designed elements.
The wheels, brake calipers and Ferrari badge were all finished with the color scheme exclusive to Chassis 0.
This is not just another Luce.
It is a one-of-a-kind Ferrari.
$40 Million and a New World Record
The final sum of the bidding reached $40 million, setting a new world record for the most expensive new vehicle sold at auction.
The previous record holder was, surprisingly, another Ferrari.
Back in 2025, a one-off Ferrari Daytona SP3 was sold for $26 million. Surprisingly, the buyer of that Ferrari Daytona SP3 is the same person as the owner of the current $40 million Luce.
The winner of the bidding is the American billionaire, inventor and Ferrari collector Herbert A. Wertheim.
There Is More To This Story
And there is one more important detail in this case.
This auction took place for the charity.
The funds received by Ferrari from this $40 million sale will go to educational programs in the USA and abroad through the Ferrari Foundation.
That means that this record-breaking sale is not just about owning a new Ferrari anymore.
